South Central Luzon Conference Celebrates 109th IFI Proclamation Anniversary

The Diocese of Romblon and Mindoros hosted the South Central Luzon Conference celebration of the 109th proclamation anniversary of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente on August 2 and 3, 2011. The occasion has gathered in the municipality of Odiongan, Romblon around 5,000 clergy and faithful coming from the seven dioceses constituting the South Central Luzon Conference.

The opening service on August 2, held at the Cathedral of Saint Vincent Ferrer, was highlighted with an input by Mr. Brecio Fajutnao, Vice Mayor of Odiongan, dealing on the mining situation in the island province of Romblon. The Diocese of Romblon and Mindoros, though the leadership of Bishop Ronelio Fabriquer, strongly opposes the mining operations in Tablas Islands.

Sectoral meetings were separately held at different locations with resource persons giving input on the theme of the celebration “Ipagpatuloy ang Mabuting Gawa tungo sa Higit na Pagpapala”. A cultural show and fellowship in the evening capped the festivities of the first day of the celebration.

A parade around the town of Odiongan and a primatial mass held at the municipal stadium that was officiated by the Obispo Maximo, the Most Reverend Ephraim S. Fajutagana, who was himself hailed in Odiongan, crowned the August 3 celebration. Concelebrating with the Obispo Maximo were Bishop Ronelio Fabriquer, Bishop Pedro Ojascastro of the Diocese of Cavite, Bishop Tomas Millamena of the Diocese of Laguna, Bishop Godofredo David of the Diocese of Rizal and Pampanga, and Bishop Joselito Cruz, General Secretary of the Church.

The two-day celebration was jointly coordinated by the Obispado Maximo and the South Central Luzon Conference.
