Operation Sambayanihan

IFI-TFER Operation Sambayanihan is organized to respond to the urgent relief needs of calamity victims. It serves as the Church's emergency relief arm to serve as conduit between donors and calamity victims. It links with partner and concordat Churches, individuals, and organizations local and abroad in order to facilitate relief donations and assistance, and at the same time link with local churches, relief organizations, and local government units in resource generation and delivery of services.

AN APPEAL ON BEHALF OF THE VICTIMS OF TYPHOON YOLANDA

14th November 2013

Dear Friends in Christ,

“Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.”  (Romans 12: 12)

First, we are deeply touched by words of concern and strengthened by prayers that some of you had already sent. Typhoon Yolanda (with international name “Haiyan”) has left  the central part of the Philippines a trail of death and destruction.

Six provinces sustained serious damage, and as reported by both local and international media, the dead count has reached thousands, and damage to property has amounted to billions of pesos. Gathering of data has been very difficult because regular means of communication have been seriously damaged.  Sketchy messages started to come in only a few days ago. We have attached the partial verified data from IFI church workers (sources from both clergy and laypeople), and this, too, provides the horrible condition of the communities.

Our national coordinating group for relief, the Task Force on Emergency Relief (TFER), has decided to focus our efforts in the Panay area (provinces of Iloilo, Antique, Aklan, Capiz) and northern Cebu. TFER has been coordinating directly with diocesan leaders and also with those affected.

In this situation of suffering, we appeal for your loving support and prayers. Please send your contributions to:

As in past occasions, we appeal that we can join hands again in responding to the least of our neighbors, whose present life and death situation, urgently needs our response.

Shalom to everyone.

Sincerely,

Bishop Joselito T. Cruz

Convenor, IFI-Task Force on Emergency Response

Dear Friends,

We are glad to share to you the Task Force on Emergency Response (TFER) mid-term report on Typhoon Haiyan. With this report, we would also like to extend our sincere gratitude for your contributions and support on behalf of the survivors of the super typhoon.

The report covers the initiatives that have been undertaken for the period covering December 2013 to June 2014. This partial report gives a picture of the relief distribution operations, medical missions, psychosocial intervention, livelihood assistance and rehabilitation efforts implemented through TFER Bulig Katilingban.

We hope that you find this humble report a worthy piece of document not only because it tells about our partnership, but more because it gives testimony to our cooperation in God’s mission in service to the last and the least among our brothers and sisters.

Thank you so much.
