AN APPEAL ON BEHALF OF THE VICTIMS OF THE FLOODING
7th August 2012
Dear Friends and Fellow Faithful,
The peace of the Lord be with you!
Torrential rains since Monday morning, 6th August, have caused massive flooding in Metro Manila and nearby provinces, prompting mass evacuations and the suspension of work in government offices and classes in all levels. Reports coming from government disaster monitoring agencies showed that most of Metro Manila, and parts of Quezon City, Marikina City and Pasig City, were flooded. Severe flooding and intense rain were also reported in the provinces of Bataan, Pangasinan, La Union, Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, Mindoro, Bulacan, Pampanga, and Nueva Ecija.
The heavy downpour have caused the spilling of four major dams in Luzon causing severe flooding that inundated many towns and villages under one (1) to eight (8) feet of flood waters. The continuous heavy rains and massive flooding have already affected more than 200,000 families in Luzon, who, at this moment, await relief and medical assistance, food packs and safe drinking water.
We have already opened our church buildings as sanctuaries to provide temporary shelter to those who have evacuated from their homes and communities, and at the same time have started to gather provisions for their needs. We also wish to reach out to more families and we earnestly hope for your partnership in this special ministry. We humbly appeal to your generosity for support so we can offer relief operations and medical services to thousands of families, specially the elderly and young children, who were affected by this calamity.
Our relief operation is targeting 5,000 families in the provinces of Bulacan, Laguna, Cavite, Tarlac and Pangasinan, and in the Greater Manila Area. We shall schedule the relief operation in the next few days and we earnestly hope for your response to make this ministry possible.
Should you have any inquiries, please call us up at (+63-2-) 521-3932 or 523-7242, or email us at operation_sambayanihan@ifi.ph or om@ifi.ph.
Thank you so much for your solidarity and support. May your kindness and charity be a testimony of God’s caring love for his people.
Sincerely,
† The Most Reverend Ephraim S. Fajutagana
